Kerala Golden Milk (Manjal Paal) with Turmeric Honey

Every Kerala child knows the taste of manjal paal — warm milk turned gold at bedtime. Ours has a small difference: the turmeric and the pepper are already living in the honey jar, steeped slowly into raw honey from our own hives.

Kerala Golden Milk (Manjal Paal) with Turmeric Honey

Jar: Honey with Turmeric & Black Pepper · 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (or coconut milk)
  • 1 generous teaspoon Honey with Turmeric & Black Pepper
  • 1 small piece of crushed cardamom (optional)

Method

  1. Warm the milk gently — hot to sip, not boiling.
  2. Take it off the heat and let it stand one minute.
  3. Stir in the spoon of turmeric-pepper honey until the milk turns gold. Add cardamom if you like.

Honey goes in after the milk leaves the stove — raw honey is never cooked, in our kitchen or yours.

    • Yes, stingless bee honey (cherutheneecha) is highly valued in traditional medicine, such as Ayurveda and local folk practices, often being preferred over regular honey. Due to their small size, stingless bees can forage from tiny medicinal flowers that larger bees cannot access. This yields a distinct honey with a thinner consistency and a tangy, slightly sour flavor profile driven by natural organic acids and active compounds. Please note that while these traditional uses are widely recognized, these health claims have not been officially evaluated or approved by our medical department.
